Uncommon music criticized by the common man. (Or, exercises in futility masquerading as critical thought.)

Okay, so once again, I lied about something getting written (the FME show). For once, unfortunately, it had more to do with my schedule (work hours have been insane the last month) than my laziness. And this isn't going to be much of a substitute. As a matter of fact, it's just quick rundown of some recent acquisitions. I will admit I haven't listened to them as much as I'd like, but I have listened to them all (except one, which I just got this past weekend) at least once. They are (in chronological order of purchase):

FME Cuts (Okkadisk)
Paal Nilssen-Love townorchestrahouse (Clean Feed)
Cave In Perfect Pitch Black (Hydra Head)
Coheed & Cambria Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV, Vol. 1 (Columbia)
The New Pornographers Twin Cinema (Matador)
John Coltrane Ascension (Impulse!)
Rova::Orkestrova Electric Ascension (Atavistic)

The last two I just picked up this past weekend. I have only listened to the Coltrane original so far, and want to give it several more listens before listening to the Rova interpretation. I still don't have enough of a jazz background to write anything too enlightening about either disc, but I may take a shot at writing something about the Rova disc, if it inspires me to do so.

In other news: the next show I will be definitely be attending is the Green Milk From The Planet Orange concert at DC 9 on Wednesday, 10/26. Also coming to DC 9 that should be worth my time (and yours) is DMBQ on 10/30 and The Atomic Bitchwax on 11/23. Parties interested in tagging along should holla at me at your leisure. Other shows in the area that look promising: Jello Biafra and The Melvins on 10/25 (Black Cat), GWAR on 10/22 (9:30 Club), Super Furry Animals on 11/8 (9:30 Club), The Black Keys on 11/12 (9:30 Club...very likely going to make this one), Pig Destoyer on 10/21 (Warehouse Nextdoor...I already have plans for that night, or I'd totally go. However, I encourage you, gentle reader, to go and get your grind on), and Dysrhythmia (10/27 Warehouse Nextdoor...shit...now I'm tempted to hit the Jello Biafra/Melvins, Green Milk, and Dysrhythmia shows on consecutive nights. Stay tuned).
